SARASOTA, Fla. (March, 2021) – Angie Stringer, President & CEO of Girls Inc. of Sarasota County , has been awarded the Visionary Voice Award from Saks Fifth Avenue to recognize her leadership and commitment to mental health services for girls in Sarasota County. In honor of Women’s History Month, Saks Fifth Avenue celebrated inspirational women in the mental health field through its first-ever Visionary Voice Awards program. Saks’ Visionary Voice Awards initiative builds upon the Saks Fifth Avenue Foundation’s commitment to making mental health a priority in every community by increasing understanding, improving access to care and promoting skills that build positive mental health for those who need it most. This award supports those endeavors and emphasizes the importance of services provided at Girls Inc. Saks has awarded Girls Inc. of Sarasota a $10,000 grant to support the Family Strengthening Program.
In 2016, Girls Inc. received funding from Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation to launch the Family Strengthening Program (FSP). The program was designed to provide a continuum of services to address the social-emotional health of girls while strengthening each family’s communication through awareness, intervention and referrals.
Stringer says, “As soon as we began providing mental health services through this program it became how apparent the need was for our girls and their families. Mental health issues cross all socioeconomic boundaries and affect our entire community. We are honored to be recognized by Saks Fifth Avenue for our efforts to address this need, and we are thankful they are bringing national attention to mental health.”
The Sarasota Saks Fifth Avenue store has a long-standing history of supporting Girls Inc. by hosting a career day for girls to learn about professional opportunities at the luxury retailer and through donations at the organization’s annual Celebration Luncheon. Terri Najmolhoda, Vice President & General Manager of Saks Sarasota, says, “Our team cherishes our partnership with Girls Inc. It is so inspiring to see girls thrive at Girls Inc. year over year, and we are so proud to see Angie recognized with this tremendous honor”. Earlier this month, Saks Sarasota hosted a Friends & Family Give Back event, raising another $5,000 in support of the Family Strengthening Program.
